Leon Goretzka considering free transfer to Arsenal after Bayern exit
Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is reportedly considering a move to Arsenal this summer as a free agent, with the Premier League emerging as his preferred destination. The 31-year-old German international’s contract expires in June, allowing him to depart the Bundesliga champions after six seasons.
According to Calciomercato, Goretzka favors joining Arsenal over Serie A side AC Milan despite the Italian club’s strong interest. The report suggests Milan’s financial limitations could prove decisive, with the Gunners better positioned to meet the midfielder’s wage demands. Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus are also monitoring the situation.
Goretzka has revived his career this season under Vincent Kompany, starting 25 Bundesliga matches for the title-winning side. His combative playing style and experience in high-pressure matches align with Arsenal’s recruitment strategy, though his age and salary expectations present potential complications for a club typically focused on younger targets.
The Germany international previously rejected January interest from Arsenal after they explored short-term options following Mohamed Elneny’s injury. Goretzka’s potential arrival would add depth to Mikel Arteta’s midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, while providing Champions League experience ahead of Arsenal’s return to the competition.
Bayern Munich had attempted to offload Goretzka in recent years due to his €13.4m annual wages but ultimately retained him as a key squad member. His impending departure marks the end of an era that saw him win five Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League with the Bavarian club.
