Premier League Giants Eye Cesc Fabregas for Managerial Role
Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the progress of Cesc Fabregas as a potential future managerial candidate, according to sources. The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, currently managing Serie A side Como, has emerged as a person of interest for the clubs where he once starred as a player. The 38-year-old has guided Como to a historic season, with the club currently sitting 5th in Serie A and in contention for a first-ever Champions League qualification.
Fabregas, who took charge of Como in Serie B and led them to promotion, has seen his reputation as a coach soar. His work in Italy has not gone unnoticed, with several top European clubs, including Manchester City, also reported to be monitoring his progress. According to sources, Manchester City's sporting director Hugo Viana has included Fabregas in discussions about a long-term successor to Pep Guardiola, though Enzo Maresca and Vincent Kompany are understood to be the leading contenders for that potential vacancy.
At Arsenal, where Fabregas is a club legend, the hierarchy remains fully supportive of current manager Mikel Arteta. However, with Arteta's contract having just over a year remaining and the club yet to secure a major trophy in his tenure, contingency planning is understood to be a standard part of the club's long-term strategy. Sources indicate Fabregas is among a shortlist of names being tracked by the club's hierarchy, particularly if the current campaign does not yield silverware. The club is expected to open contract talks with Arteta this summer.
Chelsea, another of Fabregas's former clubs, is also understood to be impressed by his rapid development as a manager. Despite publicly backing current head coach Liam Rosenior, the club's ownership is known to be conducting due diligence on a range of future managerial options, with Fabregas's profile fitting the club's data-led, progressive model. The strategy of monitoring potential successors while supporting the current manager is a common practice among top clubs, and Fabregas is a prominent name on several lists.
Despite the growing interest, Fabregas is said to be fully committed to his project at Como, a club he initially joined as a player in 2022 before moving into a player-coach and then a full-time managerial role. Sources close to the coach insist he has no plans to leave the Italian club, where he is under contract, and is focused on securing European football at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. His rapid rise, however, means his name is now firmly in the conversation for elite jobs, and his former clubs are well aware of his growing credentials.
