Robert Lewandowski played his final match for FC Barcelona on Sunday, appearing in the club’s 3-1 victory over Real Betis at Camp Nou. The Polish striker is set to depart the Catalan club at the end of the current season, though his next destination has not yet been confirmed.
Barcelona secured the win thanks to a brace from Raphinha, scoring in the 27th and 61st minutes, and a goal from João Cancelo in the 73rd minute. The victory marked Barcelona’s 19th home win of the La Liga season, a feat not achieved since the 1985-86 season when Real Madrid accomplished the same. This is the first time a team has won every home match in a 20-team La Liga campaign.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022 from Bayern Munich for a reported €45 million. He quickly became a key player for Xavi Hernández’s side, scoring 19 goals in 34 La Liga appearances during his first season. This season, the 35-year-old has continued to contribute, though injuries have limited his playing time. He has 10 goals in 27 league appearances.
Barcelona finished the season in second place in La Liga, behind champions Real Madrid. Lewandowski’s departure leaves a significant void in the Barcelona attack, and the club will likely seek to sign a replacement during the summer transfer window. His exit comes as Barcelona continues to navigate financial difficulties, and a sale could provide a boost to the club’s finances.
