Lille manager Bruno Genesio has refused to commit to his future with the club, stating he has not received any offers of a contract extension as the season draws to a close. The situation remains unclear with two crucial Ligue 1 matches remaining, including a significant clash against Monaco in the race for Champions League qualification.
Speaking at a press conference, Genesio emphasized his current focus is solely on securing Champions League football for Lille. He acknowledged that discussions about his future will begin after the final match, but stated, “Today, there has been no extension of contract at LOSC. So, I will not tell you nonsense.” He also admitted to receiving external interest, but reiterated his commitment to Lille for the remainder of the season.
Genesio arrived at Lille with a reputation built on successful spells managing Olympique Lyonnais and Rennes. His current contract is set to expire on June 30th, leaving his long-term position at the club uncertain. While he did not explicitly state a desire to leave, he also indicated the club has not yet made any moves to retain his services.
The club’s performance in securing Champions League qualification appears to be a key factor in determining his future. A successful finish could significantly strengthen his position and potentially lead to contract negotiations. However, Genesio stressed that the decision is not solely his, and the club’s perspective will also be crucial. He added, “It’s important to remain focused on what I have to do with LOSC… after there will be time to take stock.”
Lille currently sit in the Champions League qualification spots, but the final two matches of the season will be decisive. The outcome of these games will not only determine their European fate but also potentially influence the future of their manager.
