Inter Milan are monitoring the situation of Nico Paz, who is set to return to Real Madrid from Como by June 30th for a fee of €10 million, according to reports in Italy. The move comes as Real Madrid exercise their buyback clause on the young Argentinian midfielder.
Como acquired Paz last summer, but a clause allowed Real Madrid to re-sign him, and they are now set to do so. This has opened up a potential opportunity for Inter, who see Paz as a player who could significantly boost their squad and marketing appeal. The club’s ownership reportedly sought a similar profile last summer in Nicolas Williams, a player who ultimately proved unattainable, but Paz fits the desired characteristics of a young, promising talent with a manageable wage.
Paz’s father, Pablo Paz, played alongside Inter legend Javier Zanetti for the Argentinian national team, and Zanetti once turned down a move to Real Madrid in 2001, believing he could achieve greater significance at Inter. This familial connection and the potential for a starring role at the Nerazzurri could influence Paz’s decision. While at Real Madrid, Paz might be seen as just one of many options in his position.
Inter’s pursuit is not expected to be straightforward, as Real Madrid manager José Mourinho will ultimately decide Paz’s future. Mourinho will prioritize players who contribute to winning, and if he has other options in Paz’s position, Inter will need to be proactive. However, the club is prepared to explore a deal, potentially involving a loan with an option or obligation to buy, or even a deal that includes a future buyback clause for Real Madrid, valued at around €60 million. Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, and youth team coach Cristian Chivu, view Paz as a player who could add new tactical dimensions to the team, potentially fitting into a 3-4-2-1 formation. Inter are also pursuing other midfield targets, including Habib Diarra from Clermont Foot, who Roma may be forced to sell to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
