Inter Milan are focusing their efforts on securing the transfer of Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence, with the player having impressed during recent international appearances, according to reports in Italy. The Nerazzurri have seen previous targets fall through, including Palestra and Khalaili, leading them to prioritise the English right-back.
Spence, 25, emerged as a standout performer at the recent World Cup, contributing both offensively and defensively, notably winning a penalty in the third-place play-off against France. Inter view him as an ideal fit for their squad, aligning with Oaktree’s preference for players aged 24 and under, a strategy implemented since their takeover last summer. Negotiations with Tottenham are ongoing, with Inter hoping to secure Spence for a fee between €30-35 million.
Tottenham, however, are reportedly holding out for approximately €40 million, buoyed by Spence’s strong showing on the world stage. The difference in valuation represents a significant hurdle, but Inter’s transfer team hope to narrow the gap in the coming days. Securing Spence would provide a solution to the right-back position vacated following the departure of Denzel Dumfries.
Alongside Spence, Inter also retain an interest in Liverpool’s Curtis Jones. The Merseyside club are seeking around €40 million for the midfielder, whose contract is valid until 2027. Inter’s ability to pursue Jones is contingent on generating funds through player sales, with Frattesi, Asllani, Akinsanmiro, and Aleks Stankovic potential departures. The club is evaluating potential offers for these players, which could create the financial space needed to bring Jones to the San Siro. A successful acquisition of either player would bolster Inter’s squad ahead of the upcoming Serie A season and provide tactical flexibility for coach Chivu.
