Inter have officially re-signed midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge for a fee of €23 million, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The move activates a buy-back clause that was included in the original transfer that saw Stankovic move to Belgium last year for €10 million.
Stankovic’s development at Brugge has been significant, with the club citing his physical and technical improvements as key factors in their decision. He became a key player for the Belgian side, contributing three goals and 14 appearances in all competitions, including Champions League matches. Several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs have reportedly expressed interest in the 20-year-old, potentially willing to offer Inter a substantial profit.
The decision to re-acquire Stankovic was made during a recent club meeting, with the coaching staff keen to evaluate him during pre-season training. Stankovic is familiar to the Inter setup, having come through their youth academy alongside fellow Primavera graduate, Pio Esposito. Both players, born within months of each other, were part of the Primavera squad coached by Cristian Chivu during the 2022-23 season.
For Stankovic, playing for Inter holds a particular significance, given his father Dejan’s legendary status at the club. The player has previously expressed a strong desire to represent the Nerazzurri. However, Inter are reportedly open to offers in the region of €40 million, meaning a quick resale is a distinct possibility. The club would realize a significant profit, having invested a total of €13 million in developing the player. Inter’s sporting director, Cristian Chivu, has reportedly given his approval for the move, but is also considering options to retain the young talent within the squad, potentially integrating him into the first team following a successful pre-season.
