Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Samuel Martínez from Colombian side Atlético Nacional, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder will join the Anfield club in 2027, upon turning 18.
This move comes as Liverpool also prioritize strengthening their current squad, particularly with a search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah ongoing. However, the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are simultaneously focused on securing promising talents for the future, demonstrated by previous signings such as Giovanni Leoni from Parma and the anticipated arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in 2026.
Martínez recently captained Colombia to victory at the Under-17 South American Championship in 2026, highlighting his potential on the international stage. Pipe Sierra, a reliable journalist, reports that the agreement with Atlético Nacional is for a fee of $1 million, with the Colombian club retaining a percentage of any future sale. The deal includes a five-year contract for Martínez.
Liverpool reportedly beat competition from other European giants, including Borussia Dortmund, to secure Martínez’s signature. The player will remain with Atlético Nacional to continue his development until he reaches the age of 18, allowing him to gain further experience before making the move to England. This proactive approach to identifying and securing young talent suggests Liverpool are building for sustained success under manager Arne Slot. The acquisition of Martínez adds further depth to Liverpool’s midfield options for the future.
