Liverpool are prepared to turn their attention to Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola should they be unable to secure the signature of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Merseyside club have been in discussions with representatives of Diomande, but face competition from PSG for the Ivory Coast international.
Liverpool’s interest in Diomande was first reported in December 2025, with the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, hoping to reach an agreement with the player’s agents before initiating talks with Leipzig. However, RB Leipzig are reportedly keen to retain Diomande for at least another season, potentially delaying any move until 2027.
Barcola, who has yet to agree to a contract extension with PSG, has been identified as a viable alternative by Liverpool. Romano reports that the club have long admired the French winger, considering him an “ideal player” as far back as August 2025, but were unable to pursue a deal at that time due to other financial commitments.
Romano detailed that the situation mirrors a previous transfer involving Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who opted for PSG despite interest from Liverpool, emphasizing that Diomande’s decision will ultimately dictate the direction of the deal. Should Diomande choose to join PSG, Liverpool are expected to make a serious move for Barcola, although they will face competition from Arsenal, who also hold an interest in the 21-year-old.
Barcola has featured regularly for PSG, demonstrating his potential as a dynamic attacking threat. A move to Anfield would provide him with a new challenge and the opportunity to establish himself as a key player under new manager Arne Slot. Securing either Diomande or Barcola would bolster Liverpool’s attacking options as they look to compete at the top of the Premier League.
