Liverpool Scouting Hoffenheim's Bazoumana Toure as Salah Replacement
Liverpool are monitoring Hoffenheim and Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Toure as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to reports in Germany. The 20-year-old has become a regular Bundesliga starter this season and his performances have reportedly led to Liverpool scouts watching him 'almost every week,' according to German outlet BILD.
Salah's long-term future at Anfield remains uncertain, with the Egyptian entering the final year of his contract next season and the subject of intense interest from the Saudi Pro League. In preparation for a potential departure, Liverpool's recruitment team has been active in scouting potential successors, with Toure emerging as a serious target.
The 20-year-old winger joined Hoffenheim from Swedish side Hammarby for a reported fee of €10 million last year. He has since made 22 Bundesliga appearances this season, contributing two goals and eight assists, and was part of the Ivory Coast squad that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. His performances have also reportedly attracted the attention of Aston Villa, among other Premier League clubs.
According to BILD, Liverpool's interest is serious and sustained, with scouts dispatched to watch the player on a weekly basis. The report suggests a move to England is 'likely' this summer, with a potential fee in the region of €40 million. However, there is no release clause in his contract, and his value could rise further with a strong showing for the Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup.
A left-footed right-winger, Toure's playing style is seen as a stylistic match for the role currently occupied by Salah, favoring a move to cut inside onto his stronger foot. He is considered a more attainable target than some of Liverpool's other reported targets, such as RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande or Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, who are likely to command significantly higher fees.
While Diomande remains a primary target, his €100 million price tag and competition from clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United complicate a potential deal. Liverpool's ability to secure Champions League football next season could be a decisive factor in their summer transfer business, with the club currently outside the top four. The potential acquisition of a young, dynamic winger like Toure represents a move towards a long-term succession plan, offering a blend of current ability and future potential as the club plans for the post-Salah era.
