Liverpool are set to submit an increased offer for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after their initial bid was rejected, according to reports from Bild via Sport Witness. The club reportedly offered €80 million plus €20 million in add-ons for the 19-year-old Ivorian, but Leipzig are holding firm in their valuation of the player.
Liverpool view Diomande as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who recently departed Anfield on a free transfer. Despite his young age, Diomande has already demonstrated impressive dribbling skills and is considered to have world-class potential, though Liverpool acknowledge he still needs to develop his finishing ability. The Merseyside club initially tabled a bid of €100 million (£86m) but Leipzig are seeking a fee in the region of €120-148 million (£103.5-128m).
Liverpool are now preparing a revised bid worth €100 million plus €20 million in bonuses, hoping to convince Leipzig to part with their prized asset. Diomande’s representatives are reportedly urging the Bundesliga club to accept the offer, seeking a high-profile move for their client. However, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer is believed to have an agreement with Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager and current Red Bull chief, not to sell Diomande this summer.
Leipzig’s willingness to resist Liverpool’s advances is partly driven by their desire to use the funds from a potential sale to strengthen their own attack. Selling Diomande for a fee approaching €148 million would allow them to bring in at least two new players. Liverpool remain confident that Diomande is keen on a move to Anfield, and personal terms are reportedly already agreed. Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the ongoing transfer saga on Wednesday.
Should Liverpool fail to secure Diomande, they are expected to turn their attention to other wingers in the Premier League. The pursuit of Diomande underscores Liverpool’s ambition to refresh their attacking options following Salah’s departure, and securing a player of his potential would represent a significant coup for the club.
