Liverpool are reportedly poised to accelerate their interest in Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with a potential double raid on the French club also including winger Maghnes Akliouche. According to transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke, Camara is valued around £40 million by Monaco.
The potential move for Camara aligns with Liverpool’s plans to revamp their midfield ahead of next season, with the club seeking a defensive-minded player to complement Ryan Gravenberch. The 22-year-old has established himself as a key player for Monaco, featuring regularly in Ligue 1. His arrival could also pave the way for the departure of Alexis Mac Allister, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid following a disappointing season, or potentially Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo.
Liverpool spent significantly last summer, exceeding £440 million in transfer fees, but manager Arne Slot is expected to continue reshaping the squad. The need for reinforcements extends beyond midfield, with the club also targeting new forwards, a left-back, and a right-back, with a centre-half also a possibility.
Alongside Camara, Liverpool are also strongly linked with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, with sources claiming they are ‘in pole position’ to secure his signature. The 24-year-old winger has impressed this season, recording seven goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances. Akliouche is valued at approximately €60 million (£52m), a figure that could rise to €70m (£61m) if multiple clubs enter the bidding. He is viewed as a potential alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, whose €100m (£87m) price tag may prove prohibitive.
Liverpool journalist David Lynch has suggested that the club should consider selling Mac Allister, citing a decline in his physicality and overall performance. He believes retaining Mac Allister would be a “failure” given his current form. The potential arrival of Camara and Akliouche would undoubtedly increase competition for places within the Liverpool squad and offer Slot greater tactical flexibility.
