Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna for a fee of £34 million, triggering the player’s release clause. The club confirmed that Munoz has agreed terms on a six-year contract and underwent a medical in the United States on Wednesday, with permission granted by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The transfer comes after Liverpool successfully beat competition from Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Bayer Leverkusen for the versatile winger.
Munoz, who previously played for Real Madrid, is capable of featuring on both the left and right wings, as well as playing as a centre-forward, a versatility that appealed to Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola. The club reportedly discussed Munoz with Iraola during early squad planning conversations, allowing them to move quickly to secure his signature. The fee will be paid in two instalments, according to sources.
The arrival of Munoz has led to speculation regarding the future of Federico Chiesa at Anfield. Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reported on X that Chiesa is likely to depart Liverpool in search of regular playing time, despite his playing style being well-suited to Iraola’s system. However, Jacobs also stated that the signing of Munoz will not impact the opportunities for highly-rated 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, who has already earned a cap for England.
Despite completing the deal for Munoz, Liverpool remain actively interested in signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and Bradley Barcola from PSG. Sources indicate that the club still views Diomande as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right wing, while Barcola remains a target to bolster their attacking options. Other wingers under consideration include Koln’s Said El Mala, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, should a move for Diomande prove unsuccessful. The club are prioritizing pace in their search for additional attacking reinforcements. The pursuit of these players suggests Liverpool are aiming to significantly strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
