Liverpool will retain Arne Slot as their manager for the upcoming season and are planning to sign two new wingers this summer, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein. The decision comes despite fan discontent with Slot following a challenging second season at Anfield.
Owners FSG and the club’s hierarchy are committed to supporting Slot, believing that new additions in the wide positions will allow for a fairer assessment of his performance. Xabi Alonso was not considered as a potential replacement, as confirmed by Ornstein on NBC.
TEAMtalk’s transfer insiders, Fraser Fletcher and Graeme Bailey, report that RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is a primary target, with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche also under consideration. These signings could pave the way for departures, with Mohamed Salah potentially being replaced and Cody Gakpo’s future uncertain.
The club are reportedly keen to offload Gakpo, who has struggled for form, and a sale could also open up opportunities for young players like Rio Ngumoha. However, concerns are growing over the contract situation of defender Ibrahima Konate, with talks currently at a “stalemate” according to Ornstein.
Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season, and while a renewal was seemingly close in April, no breakthrough has been made. Sporting director Richard Hughes will remain at Anfield, despite interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, with his contract running until 2027.
