Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the pursuit of Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to reports in Italy. The 27-year-old Brazilian has been a key player for Juventus since his arrival from Torino in July 2022, making 122 appearances and helping the club win the Coppa Italia last season.
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to submit a €58 million (£50 million) offer for Bremer, with Tutto Juve claiming the defender is an ‘ideal’ target to bolster their defensive options. Concerns over the fitness of Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt have prompted the Red Devils to seek reinforcements in that position.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool have now entered the fray, presenting strong competition to United. The potential departure of Joe Gomez this summer, coupled with the need to eventually find a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, has led Liverpool to identify Bremer as a potential target. Ibrahima Konate is expected to sign a contract extension, but adding another quality centre-back remains a priority.
Bremer’s current contract with Juventus does not expire for several years, but Gazzetta dello Sport suggests his future at the club is uncertain should they fail to qualify for the Champions League. The defender is said to desire playing in Europe’s most prestigious club competition and is expected to consider offers from other clubs. Juventus are attempting to persuade Bremer to remain by offering him a new deal.
Bremer initially gained prominence during his time at Torino, where he impressed former manager Ivan Juric, who described him as an ‘animal’. He has established himself as one of the leading defenders in Serie A, attracting interest from several top European clubs. Tottenham Hotspur were previously linked with a move for Bremer, but he has reportedly ruled out a transfer to the North London club.
