Liverpool are considering a move for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh as an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, according to a report from Caught Offside. The potential shift in focus comes as Diomande is expected to command a fee of around €130million (£112m), a figure Liverpool may be unwilling to meet.
Liverpool are prioritizing the addition of a new winger this summer following the departure of Mohamed Salah after nine seasons with the club. Diomande remains their primary target, but the club are prepared to explore other options should a deal prove too difficult to negotiate. Minteh is reportedly seen as a fitting option for manager Andoni Iraola, possessing significant pace and dribbling ability.
Liverpool have reportedly allocated £40million for a potential transfer for Minteh, representing a substantial saving compared to the expected cost of Diomande. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, where he made 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists. His performances in the Eredivisie showcased his potential as a dynamic attacking threat.
Despite the emergence of Minteh as a viable alternative, Liverpool are continuing to pursue Diomande with “aggressive” intent. Sources indicate growing confidence that the Ivorian international is receptive to a move to Anfield, having been presented with a detailed vision for his role within the team. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool are working to secure Diomande’s commitment to push for a transfer.
Liverpool submitted a bid of £90million for Diomande, which was rejected by Leipzig. The club are prepared to return with an improved offer, hoping to convince the Bundesliga side to part with their star player. Diomande’s performances at the recent World Cup for Ivory Coast have further increased his market value. Securing either player would represent a significant step in replacing the output lost with Salah’s departure and usher in a new attacking era at Anfield.
