Liverpool have reaffirmed their commitment to Dominik Szoboszlai, ruling out a potential sale despite interest from several European giants, while simultaneously stepping up their efforts to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to TEAMtalk. The club is actively reshaping its midfield under new management and views both players as central to those plans.
Szoboszlai, the Hungary international, has attracted attention from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, but Liverpool officials have indicated they have no intention of considering any offers. They remain confident of agreeing a new contract with the player before the start of the upcoming Premier League season, solidifying his long-term future at Anfield.
Liverpool’s strong stance on Szoboszlai stems from their belief that Wharton is the ideal addition to complement a midfield core built around him and Ryan Gravenberch. The Reds are preparing for potential departures, with Curtis Jones reportedly a target for Inter Milan, and ongoing uncertainty surrounding Alexis Mac Allister’s future. This has made strengthening the midfield a key priority during the transfer window.
Wharton has emerged as a leading target after a successful spell with Crystal Palace, having joined from Blackburn Rovers. Liverpool have been intensifying discussions with Palace over a potential deal, with sources suggesting the player is keen on a move to Merseyside. Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, are prepared to authorize a transfer fee exceeding £70 million if necessary, which would represent a significant profit for Palace, who originally signed Wharton for £18 million.
While Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott remains on Liverpool’s radar, the potential difficulty in securing his signature – with Bournemouth potentially offering a new contract with a release clause – has increased the focus on Wharton. Liverpool are aware of the inflated prices in the current domestic transfer market, particularly following Manchester City’s expected record-breaking move for Elliot Anderson, but believe a deal for Wharton is achievable.
