Liverpool have emphatically dismissed any possibility of allowing winger Rio Ngumoha to leave the club this summer, despite reported interest from Bayern Munich. The stance was confirmed by multiple sources following speculation last week that the German champions were preparing a significant offer for the 17-year-old.
Ngumoha enjoyed a breakthrough season with Liverpool in the 2025/26 campaign, contributing three goal contributions in 551 minutes of Premier League football. His performances have marked him as a key part of the club’s future plans, with increased first-team opportunities anticipated in the upcoming season. Liverpool officials reportedly expressed anger at the leak of Bayern’s interest, underlining their determination to retain the young player.
According to journalist Lewis Bower, speaking on the BBC, an inside source at Anfield has stated there are “no circumstances” under which Ngumoha will be permitted to depart. This follows earlier reports from TEAMtalk that Liverpool were “deeply unhappy” with claims of agreed terms between Bayern and the player’s representatives.
Ngumoha signed a three-year contract extension last September, committing him to Anfield until 2028, but the club are already planning to offer him upgraded terms. This is in recognition of his progress and recent debut for the England national team. With the player turning 18 in August, Liverpool will be able to offer a longer-term contract, exceeding the maximum three-year deal currently permitted for players under 18.
Transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey reported that Liverpool view Ngumoha as “one of the most exciting young players at the club” and are focused on securing his long-term future. While Bayern manager Vincent Kompany is known to be an admirer of Ngumoha, Liverpool are confident that any approach from the German club will not violate transfer regulations. The club intends to open discussions regarding a new contract and wage increase for Ngumoha once he reaches his 18th birthday on August 29th.
