Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcelona forward Ferran Torres appears to be losing momentum, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Di Marzio stated that a move to Anfield is unlikely, with Paris Saint-Germain currently the frontrunners for the World Cup winner’s signature.
Torres recently scored the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final, adding to a decorated career that includes European Championship and Premier League titles. Barcelona could be open to a sale for a fee of around €50 million (£43 million) given Torres’ contract expires next summer.
Di Marzio suggests that Torres’ potential move to PSG is driven by a desire to reunite with former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who now leads the French club. This preference seemingly diminishes the likelihood of Torres joining Liverpool, despite their reported interest.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have reportedly made an initial approach for Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche, according to Sky Sports. The 24-year-old France international is also a target for PSG, who have already submitted offers that Monaco have deemed insufficient. The most recent bid from PSG is believed to be in the region of £34 million (€40 million).
Liverpool analyst Dave Davis has indicated that Bradley Barcola of PSG remains a top target for the club, but acknowledged that securing his signature would likely require a fee exceeding £120 million (€141 million). Davis stressed the need for swift action in negotiations if Liverpool are serious about pursuing Barcola. The pursuit of Akliouche suggests Liverpool are exploring alternative options in wide areas should a deal for Barcola prove unattainable.
