Liverpool have been given renewed hope in their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande following complications in negotiations between the player and Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports. The Reds identified Diomande as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian’s departure from Anfield this summer, and had initially seen their interest cooled by the player’s preference for a move to the French capital.
Negotiations between PSG and Leipzig have reportedly stalled, with some sources describing the process as a ‘fiasco’. Leipzig are understood to be seeking a fee of £102.5million for the Ivorian international, but PSG are believed to consider that valuation excessive. This impasse could now open the door for Liverpool to re-enter the race for Diomande, should they be willing to meet Leipzig’s demands.
Diomande, 26, has established himself as a key player for Leipzig since joining the club in 2022, contributing significantly with goals and assists. He has also become a regular feature for the Ivory Coast national team, representing his country at recent international tournaments. His pace and dribbling ability would offer a different dimension to Liverpool’s attack.
However, Liverpool’s pursuit of Diomande could be complicated by interest from Bayern Munich in Bradley Barcola, who had emerged as the Reds’ “top, top, top target” according to Fabrizio Romano. Bayern are reportedly considering a move for Barcola if they are forced to sell Michael Olise, who is attracting attention from Real Madrid. A potential sale of Olise would provide Bayern with the funds to meet PSG’s reported €150million (£128m) valuation of Barcola.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are exploring strategic investment opportunities but have ‘no intention’ of selling the club. Discussions with potential investors, including billionaire Jeff Bezos, are understood to be focused on securing financial backing rather than a complete takeover. FSG remain ‘as committed as ever’ to Liverpool and view the club as a long-term asset.
Should Liverpool successfully acquire either Diomande or Barcola, it would significantly bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season. The potential arrival of a new winger is crucial following the departure of Salah, and both players represent high-quality additions to the squad.
