Liverpool have reportedly renewed their interest in Roma midfielder Manu Kone, potentially challenging Manchester United for the Frenchman’s signature. The development comes as Andoni Iraola seeks to bolster his squad following the completion of deals for Jérémy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.
Reports from The Kopite View indicate Liverpool’s revived pursuit of the 24-year-old Kone, a player previously monitored by the club. Kone’s recent performances, including appearances for France at the recent World Cup, have reportedly increased his appeal to several top European clubs.
Manchester United have also been linked with Kone, with claims from Ben Jacobs that the club made initial enquiries following the collapse of their pursuit of Atalanta’s Ederson. Liverpool’s re-emergence as contenders could complicate United’s plans. Kone is a versatile midfielder capable of playing as a holding player, box-to-box midfielder, or in a more advanced role, qualities that align with Iraola’s tactical preferences.
Roma are expected to command a fee of approximately €55million (£47m) for Kone, who still has three years remaining on his current contract. Given his recent international appearances and potential, this valuation could represent a significant opportunity for a club seeking midfield reinforcement. Liverpool have also been linked with a potential bid for Inter Milan’s Curtis Jones, though their stance on further midfield additions remains unclear.
