Liverpool have received encouraging news in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The update comes as the Merseyside club search for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Mohamed Salah and potential exits for Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool had initially targeted RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but the player has reportedly indicated a preference for a move to PSG. This shift in Diomande’s intentions has prompted Liverpool to focus on Barcola as a primary alternative. However, a deal appeared challenging due to PSG’s valuation of the player, reportedly exceeding €135m / £116m, and initial reports suggesting the Ligue 1 champions were unwilling to sell.
Romano revealed that the situation has changed, stating that Barcola is “no longer untouchable” at PSG. He further suggested that competition from Arsenal may be lessening, with the Gunners now prioritizing a move for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Liverpool have reportedly held a strong interest in Barcola since last summer, viewing him as a ‘world class’ talent, even considering him before pursuing Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
PSG are undergoing a significant overhaul of their forward line, having already sold Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan and are nearing the sale of Lee Kang-in to Atletico Madrid. They have also agreed personal terms with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and are expected to intensify their pursuit of Diomande. This activity suggests a willingness to allow Barcola to depart, particularly as he has often been left on the bench for key matches under Luis Enrique.
Barcola’s potential arrival at Anfield would not present a financial obstacle for Liverpool, who had allocated over £100m for Diomande. The club’s long-standing admiration for Barcola, demonstrated by their interest even when pursuing other targets, indicates a strong desire to secure his signature. The outcome will likely hinge on the financial package Liverpool presents to PSG.
