Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence this summer, with manager Andoni Iraola taking a “serious look” at the right-back. Spence, 23, has been identified as a potential solution to Liverpool’s issues at full-back, particularly on the right side following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid. The club is also seeking cover at left-back after Andy Robertson’s exit. Journalist Dave Davis, speaking on the Anfield Index YouTube channel, confirmed Liverpool’s interest, citing Spence’s “electric quick” pace and effectiveness in one-on-one defensive situations.
Davis highlighted Spence’s statistical strengths, noting his high percentile rankings for progressive carries and carries into the final third. The player’s versatility, capable of playing on both flanks, is also seen as a valuable asset, potentially allowing Liverpool to address multiple areas with a single signing. However, Tottenham are expected to demand a significant fee for the homegrown player, potentially around £40 million, given his recent performances and potential.
Spence spent last season on loan at Genoa, making 26 appearances across all competitions. He initially rose to prominence during a successful loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League. While Davis believes Spence is not necessarily worth £40 million, he acknowledged the complexities of the current market and Liverpool’s need to strengthen their full-back options. The club is also exploring options to sign a new centre-half to provide cover for Virgil van Dijk and competition within the squad.
