Liverpool are now prioritizing a move for Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram and Almeria’s Sergio Arribas as they reshape their midfield options, according to reports. Initial interest in Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has reportedly cooled in recent weeks, despite previous strong links.
The shift in focus comes as Liverpool anticipate potential departures in midfield and seek to bolster their squad ahead of the new season. While the club has also expressed interest in Stuttgart’s Angello Stiller and Mainz’s Kaishu Sano, no bids have been made for either player at this stage.
Thuram, a French international, has emerged as a key target for the Reds, with the club seemingly willing to pursue him despite significant midfield activity from other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City. Wharton’s decreased priority allows Palace to feel more confident of retaining their player.
Arribas, a Spanish attacking midfielder, enjoyed a prolific season with Almeria in LaLiga 2, scoring 25 goals and providing seven assists. His former club, Real Madrid, holds a 50 percent sell-on clause, meaning they would benefit from any transfer fee received by Almeria. The exact cost of acquiring Arribas remains unclear, but Real Madrid would be due a portion of the proceeds.
Liverpool’s need for midfield reinforcements has become increasingly apparent, and the club is actively exploring multiple options. The potential arrival of Thuram or Arribas, or potentially both, would significantly strengthen their options in the center of the park and provide manager Arne Slot with greater tactical flexibility. These moves signal a proactive approach to addressing a key area of the squad.
