Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Atlético Nacional U-20 midfielder Samuel Martínez, beating out competition from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports from AS Colombia journalist Pipe Sierra. The 17-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Merseyside club, with a transfer fee of around €860,000 set to be paid.
Borussia Dortmund were also heavily interested in Martínez, with Sky Germany reporting he was a key target for next summer’s transfer window. However, the German club were unable to meet the demands set by Atlético Nacional, despite reaching an initial agreement with the player. This allowed Liverpool to capitalize and secure the promising young talent.
Martínez currently plays for the Atlético Nacional U-20 team and recently impressed for Colombia at the U-17 Copa America, where he registered three assists. His performances in both club and international youth football have drawn attention from several European clubs, highlighting his potential as a future star. The midfielder is known for his creative passing and ability to dictate play from an attacking position.
The transfer is still subject to Martínez completing a medical and obtaining the necessary visa documentation. Once these formalities are completed, he will officially become a Liverpool player and begin preparations for the upcoming season. This acquisition represents a strategic investment in youth for Liverpool, adding another exciting prospect to their developing squad. The move provides Martínez with the opportunity to develop within a top Premier League club and potentially contribute to future successes.
