Liverpool have submitted an improved proposal to RB Leipzig for the transfer of winger Yan Diomande, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The offer, reportedly approaching €100 million, signifies a significant escalation in the Reds’ pursuit of the 19-year-old Ivorian international.
This move comes following the recent appointment of Andoni Iraola as Liverpool’s new head coach, replacing Arne Slot who was dismissed at the end of May. The change in management has prompted a reassessment of the squad, particularly in attacking areas, with the anticipated departure of Mohamed Salah and inconsistent form from Cody Gakpo creating a need for reinforcement.
Diomande has emerged as Liverpool’s primary target, despite reported interest from Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. The club recently confirmed the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but transfer insider Graeme Bailey maintains that the acquisition will not deter the pursuit of a specialist right-winger. Bailey has consistently reported Diomande as the leading candidate for that position.
Ornstein reports that Liverpool are now “in the driving seat” to secure Diomande’s signature, with the club demonstrating a willingness to offer a substantial financial package. Sources indicate that Liverpool’s personal terms offer is also more appealing to the player than that of PSG. However, the club is continuing to explore alternative options should a deal with Leipzig prove unattainable.
Diomande himself has previously expressed admiration for Paris Saint-Germain, stating in an interview with L’Equipe that the club was one he “loved” since childhood, due to his father’s support. Despite this, he emphasized his focus on the World Cup at the time and left his future to be determined by negotiations between clubs. A successful transfer would provide Iraola with a dynamic attacking option and potentially fill the void left by Salah’s expected exit.
