Liverpool are set to compete with Newcastle United for the signature of AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to reports from FootMercato. Newcastle have already initiated talks with Camara’s representatives, prompting Liverpool to accelerate their own interest in the 22-year-old Senegal international.
Monaco are reportedly seeking a fee of €50million (£43.6m, $58.1m) for Camara, who has impressed with his versatility, being capable of playing as either a number six or number eight. Recruitment staff at Newcastle believe Camara possesses the attributes to quickly adapt to the demands of the Premier League, and sources suggest a growing number of English clubs are monitoring his situation.
Camara joined Monaco from Metz and has become a key player in midfield. His ability to break up play and contribute to attacking phases makes him an attractive prospect for both Liverpool and Newcastle, who are both looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season. TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, initially reported the interest from both clubs earlier this month.
The potential pursuit of Camara comes as Liverpool’s plans to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig face uncertainty. Diomande may now prefer to remain in Germany, potentially forcing Liverpool to reassess their attacking options. Despite recent setbacks, Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, remain committed to supporting manager Arne Slot and are planning a significant summer transfer window to address squad deficiencies. The club is focused on securing Champions League qualification to maintain its financial stability.
