Alessandro Longoni has completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain after his contract with AC Milan expired, the club confirmed on Sunday. The 18-year-old goalkeeper joins the Ligue 1 champions on a free transfer, becoming the third goalkeeper in the first team squad. Longoni, born in January 2008, will also be eligible to feature for PSG’s youth teams, including the UEFA Youth League and the club’s U23 side.
This transfer comes as Milan consider re-signing Alessandro Liberali, a player they previously allowed to depart. Longoni’s departure raises questions about Milan’s handling of youth talent, with some observers suggesting the club may have underestimated the goalkeeper’s potential. The situation mirrors that of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who also left Milan as a free agent to join a major European club.
Longoni spent his youth career developing within Milan’s academy, progressing through the ranks from the club’s base at Vismara. He divided his playing time last season between Milan’s Primavera side, where he made 15 appearances, and the Milan Futuro team, where he featured as a substitute in one match. Despite showing promise, Longoni was unable to secure a clear pathway to regular first-team opportunities at the San Siro.
At PSG, Longoni will initially serve as a backup to the established goalkeepers, similar to the roles previously held by Torriani and Pittarella at Milan. The move offers him a chance to train with world-class players, including Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, and gain experience in a competitive environment. This transfer provides Longoni with a platform to continue his development and potentially challenge for a more prominent role in the future. The move signifies PSG’s continued investment in young talent and their ambition to build a successful squad for years to come.
