Anthony Lopes has bid farewell to FC Nantes supporters, indicating a move to Angers is imminent. The goalkeeper posted a brief message on social media thanking Nantes fans for his 18 months with the club and wishing them a swift return to Ligue 1.
Lopes’ departure follows a difficult season with Nantes, where the team conceded 51 goals and ultimately suffered relegation from the French top flight. This marked the worst season of his Ligue 1 career to date. The brevity of his goodbye message has been interpreted as a sign of his focus on securing a transfer.
Angers is located approximately 87 kilometers from Nantes, making the move geographically convenient for the Portuguese international. While financial details of the transfer have not been disclosed, the move represents a fresh start for Lopes after a challenging period with Nantes.
Lopes previously enjoyed a successful spell with Olympique Lyonnais before joining Nantes in January 2023. He made 35 appearances for Nantes across all competitions, but was unable to prevent their relegation. The move to Angers offers Lopes the opportunity to immediately return to Ligue 1 and re-establish himself as a top-flight goalkeeper.
Angers will be hoping Lopes can provide stability and experience to their squad as they compete in Ligue 1. For Nantes, the departure of Lopes adds to a period of change, with the club also recently parting ways with manager Olivier Pantaloni.
