Anthony Lopes has bid farewell to FC Nantes supporters, strongly indicating a move to Angers. The Portuguese goalkeeper posted a short message on social media thanking Nantes fans for 18 months with the club and wishing them a swift return to Ligue 1.
Lopes’ departure comes at the end of a difficult season for both the player and Nantes, who suffered relegation from the French top flight. He conceded 51 goals in Ligue 1, contributing to the club’s worst campaign in the division. The brevity of his goodbye message has fuelled speculation that a transfer was already well underway.
Angers are located approximately 87 kilometers east of Nantes, making the move geographically straightforward for the 33-year-old. Lopes previously enjoyed a successful spell with Lyon, becoming a key figure for the club over several seasons before joining Nantes in January 2023. He made 35 appearances for Nantes across all competitions.
While financial details and contract length have not been officially disclosed, the transfer represents a fresh start for Lopes following Nantes’ relegation. Angers will be hoping his experience and shot-stopping ability can bolster their squad as they aim to compete in Ligue 1. The move could also signal a change in goalkeeping options for Angers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
