Lorenzo Insigne has joined Sampdoria on a permanent transfer, the club announced on Tuesday. The former Napoli captain has signed a contract with the Blucerchiati that runs until June 30, 2027, with the club holding an option for a conditional renewal until June 30, 2028. Sampdoria described Insigne as bringing talent, international experience, and technical quality to the team.
Insigne began his professional career with spells at Cavese, Foggia, and Pescara before returning to Napoli in 2012. He quickly established himself as a key player for the Partenopei, making 434 appearances and scoring 122 goals over ten seasons. During his time in Naples, Insigne won two Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa Italiana, becoming a fan favourite and a prominent figure in Serie A.
In 2022, Insigne moved to Toronto FC for a new challenge in Major League Soccer. After one season in North America, he returned to Italy to play for Pescara during the second half of last season, the club where he initially gained recognition. His career also includes 54 appearances and 10 goals for the Italian national team, culminating in a European Championship victory in 2021.
Sampdoria will be hoping Insigne can bring his experience and leadership to a team looking to rebuild. The move represents a significant signing for the club as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. Insigne’s arrival is expected to provide a creative spark and goal threat to the Sampdoria attack, potentially revitalizing their fortunes in Serie A.
