Como midfielder Lucas Da Cunha has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at the Serie A side until 2031, the club announced. The new deal rewards Da Cunha for his consistent performances since joining Como in January 2023, where he has become a key figure in the team’s progression.
Since arriving at the club, the Brazilian midfielder has made 129 appearances across Serie B, Coppa Italia, and Serie A, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists. Da Cunha played a significant role in Como’s promotion to Serie A, and the club is clearly keen to retain his services as they look to establish themselves in the Italian top flight. The length of the contract signifies the club’s long-term faith in the player.
“In this city I have grown as a person and as a footballer, finding a family before finding a team,” Da Cunha said following the announcement. “Promotion to Serie A and the dream of the Champions League are not a destination, but a push to always want more. I am very happy to have renewed with this shirt and I look forward to continuing this journey together: team, club and fans.”
Como manager Cesc Fabregas also expressed his delight at the contract renewal, praising Da Cunha’s qualities both on and off the pitch. “Lucas embodies everything we want to build at Como,” Fabregas stated. He highlighted Da Cunha’s growth since their time as teammates, noting his development into a “great midfielder, our captain and a true leader.”
Fabregas further emphasized Da Cunha’s humility, intelligence, and commitment to the team, stating that he understands the tactical demands placed upon him and consistently gives his all for the club. The manager believes the renewal is “fully deserved” and expressed his excitement about continuing to develop together for years to come. This contract extension secures a vital player for Como as they aim to build on their recent success and compete at a higher level.
