Olympique Lyonnais have announced the signing of Burkina Faso international Mohamed Ouédraogo from Austrian side SCR Altach on a five-year contract. The club confirmed a fee of €2.2 million, with the potential for an additional €0.6 million in bonuses, as well as a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer profit.
The 23-year-old left-back joined Altach three seasons ago, initially featuring for their youth team before making his first-team debut in February 2024. He quickly established himself as a regular, making 35 appearances last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Ouédraogo has also earned nine caps for the Burkina Faso national team.
Lyon described Ouédraogo as a “solid” player in duels and capable of contributing in attack. He becomes the fourth signing of the summer for the Ligue 1 club, following the arrivals of defender Kaïl Boudache, midfielder Mads Bidstrup, and winger Julien Duranville. The club is clearly reinforcing its squad ahead of the new season.
“It’s incredible for me to sign for Olympique Lyonnais,” Ouédraogo said in a statement released by the club. “I have always watched this team a lot because my father was a big supporter of OL. Joining this club today represents a lot to me, it’s a dream come true.” He added that discussions with the club’s management and coach progressed quickly and he is eager to contribute to the team’s success.
Lyon finished 7th in Ligue 1 last season, missing out on European qualification. The signing of Ouédraogo addresses a need at left-back and provides competition for places in the squad. His arrival is expected to add defensive solidity and attacking impetus to the team as they aim to improve their league position this campaign.
