Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situations of Chelsea midfielders Enzo Fernandez and left-back Marc Cucurella, according to reports in Spain. The potential moves come amid uncertainty at Stamford Bridge following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign which saw the club finish 10th in the Premier League and miss out on European qualification.
Enzo Fernandez, who arrived at Chelsea for £107 million, is said to be frustrated with the club’s recent decline and is open to a transfer. Spanish source Defensa Central claims that Madrid president Florentino Perez views Fernandez as a key signing to bolster his campaign in the upcoming presidential elections on June 7, publicly suggesting the club’s ability to attract top talent. Fernandez himself has previously expressed a desire to play for Real Madrid, comparing the city to his hometown of Buenos Aires.
Chelsea currently value Fernandez at £120 million, but Perez has reportedly already approved a move for the Argentinian under new manager Jose Mourinho. Madrid are potentially considering a cash-plus-player deal to lower the overall cost, while also expressing interest in Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol.
Alongside Fernandez, Madrid are also tracking Cucurella, who cost Chelsea £56 million rising to £63 million. The Athletic reports that Cucurella is willing to leave Stamford Bridge if a suitable offer arrives, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also showing interest, as well as a potential reunion with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca at Manchester City. Gvardiol is also being considered as an option for Madrid, capable of playing as either a left-back or centre-half, with the player himself reportedly keen on a move to the Bernabeu. However, Bayern Munich are currently leading the chase for Gvardiol, while Barcelona have also intensified their pursuit, though City maintain he is a key part of their future plans.
These potential departures highlight the unrest within the Chelsea squad following a period of instability, and could signal a significant overhaul of the team in the upcoming transfer window.
