Real Madrid are undergoing a significant squad transformation this summer following the return of Jose Mourinho as manager and the re-election of Florentino Perez as president. After two trophyless seasons, Los Blancos have been active in the transfer market, bringing in four new players and allowing four to depart.
Denzel Dumfries has arrived from Inter Milan for a fee of £17.1m, signing a four-year contract. The 30-year-old right-back will provide competition for places, potentially challenging Trent Alexander-Arnold for a starting role. Ibrahima Konate has joined on a free transfer from Liverpool, agreeing to a four-year deal with the Spanish giants. Madrid pursued Konate despite periods where a move appeared unlikely, bolstering their central defensive options.
Midfield reinforcement comes in the form of Bernardo Silva, also arriving on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City. Despite being 31, Silva has signed a two-year contract and is expected to add quality to the engine room. Completing the incoming players is Marc Cucurella, who joins from Chelsea for a substantial £51.8m fee and a six-year contract. The left-back returns to the Spanish capital after a previous spell with Getafe and following World Cup duty with Spain.
On the outgoing side, Fran Garcia has rejoined Real Betis for £3.4m after a second spell with Madrid. The full-back will be subject to a 50% sell-on clause should Betis choose to sell him in the future. Dani Ceballos has been released after nine years at the club, expressing his desire for a new challenge. Veteran right-back Dani Carvajal has also departed after more than a decade of service, having captained the side in his final season. His future remains uncertain, though he has ruled out immediate retirement. Finally, defender David Alaba has been released after five injury-disrupted seasons in Madrid.
Madrid’s transfer business isn’t expected to stop here, with talks reportedly opened with Manchester City for Rodri, potentially costing over €50m. They also hold interest in Michael Olise, though a deal from Bayern Munich would be difficult. Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios are set to join Alvaro Arbeloa at Fulham, while Endrick will return from his loan spell at Lyon. Franco Mastantuono is available for loan, and Victor Valdepenas will join Fiorentina. Aurelien Tchouameni, however, is expected to remain at the club.
