Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has stated the club has no intention of selling winger Vinicius Junior this summer, despite reported interest from several Premier League clubs including Manchester United. The news comes as intermediaries have reportedly made contact with United regarding a potential deal for the Brazilian international in the summer of 2026, according to TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Graeme Bailey.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea have also been linked with Vinicius, with sources suggesting Manchester City are particularly keen on securing his signature. However, Perez has indicated that if the 25-year-old wishes to depart the Santiago Bernabéu as a free agent when his contract expires in 2027, Madrid will not stand in his way.
Perez emphasized Vinicius’ importance to the club, highlighting his role in securing Real Madrid’s last two Champions League titles. He dismissed suggestions that Vinicius is unpopular with some sections of the Madrid fanbase, attributing any negativity to external influences. He stated, “Some people are mistaken. They read certain newspapers and they put them in a certain situation… Vinicius is a star and I’d be delighted to have him always there.”
The Madrid president also refuted claims that Vinicius is demanding a significant increase in wages to sign a new contract, stating, “They say he asks for a lot of money, but it’s a lie.” He reiterated that money will not be the deciding factor in Vinicius’ future, and that the club will respect his decision if he chooses to explore opportunities elsewhere. Perez also dismissed concerns about the potential incompatibility between Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe, asserting that they are “the two best in the world” and can play together effectively.
Vinicius has been a key player for Real Madrid since joining from Flamengo in 2018, developing into one of the world’s most exciting attacking talents. He has consistently delivered crucial goals and assists, becoming a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the team’s success. This firm stance from Perez suggests Madrid are committed to retaining Vinicius’ services, potentially setting the stage for future contract negotiations.
