Arsenal winger Noni Madueke has explained that the club’s potential for silverware was the primary factor in his €56 million move from Chelsea last summer. The England international has become a regular feature in Mikel Arteta’s squad, particularly benefiting from injuries to Bukayo Saka during the 2025-26 season.
Madueke has made 40 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing to 11 goals, and is expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup following a year of strong performances for the national team. His transfer was initially met with some resistance from Arsenal supporters, given the significant fee and the fact he had five years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Madueke stated, “I just believed Arsenal were going to win trophies so that’s why I moved.” He also highlighted the positive influence of existing England players at the club and the supportive environment fostered by Arsenal staff. “The England boys helped me a lot, I was already close to them so it was great. The whole club helped me though, everyone in and around the club was helpful. It’s full of good people and people who want to work hard and achieve something. It was easy in that sense.”
Madueke’s decision appears increasingly justified as Arsenal chase a Premier League and Champions League double this season. Conversely, Chelsea are facing a potential finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table, despite winning the Club World Cup after Madueke’s departure. Arsenal are already planning for further investment in the summer transfer window, with Valentino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United all reportedly targets. A move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has also been heavily linked. To facilitate these signings, the club may consider selling players such as Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, and Ethan Nwaneri.
FootballTransfers reports that Arsenal are actively pursuing several high-profile targets, indicating the club’s ambition to build upon their potential success this season.
