Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and midfielder Youssouf Fofana have both removed content from their Instagram profiles, sparking concern amongst supporters regarding potential departures. Maignan deleted all posts and removed “player of Milan” from his bio, while Fofana removed all posts as well. The reason for the sudden change remains unclear, leaving followers of both players speculating about their futures.
Maignan recently signed a contract extension with Milan through 2031, but his long-term commitment to the club has been questioned due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League. The France international has been a key player for Milan since joining from Lille in 2021, establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers in Serie A. He has made 98 appearances for the Rossoneri, keeping 25 clean sheets.
Fofana’s situation differs, as he is under contract with Milan until 2028 but may find himself less central to the plans of new manager Paulo Amorim. The 25-year-old midfielder joined Milan from Monaco in 2023, making 35 appearances across all competitions last season. He featured in Milan’s 2-2 friendly draw against Celtic on Wednesday.
While the social media activity has fuelled transfer speculation, it is also possible the players simply wish to take a break from social media. Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the move has left fans concerned, particularly regarding Maignan's future. The situation remains fluid, and further clarity is expected in the coming days. The club has not yet commented on the matter.
Should Maignan become available, several top European clubs would likely express interest, given his proven quality and relatively young age. Fofana’s potential departure would likely prompt Milan to seek a replacement in midfield before the start of the Serie A season.
