Donyell Malen has completed a permanent transfer to AS Roma, the club confirmed on Friday. The 25-year-old forward arrived at the Stadio Olimpico on loan in January and has now signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2030. No transfer fee was disclosed by the club.
Malen made a significant impact during his loan spell, scoring 15 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for Roma. His arrival coincided with a strong finish to the Serie A season, securing Champions League qualification for the club on the final matchday. Roma also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the Coppa Italia during Malen’s time with the team.
The Netherlands international previously played for PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund before joining Roma. He has 10 senior international caps for the Dutch national team, and was a key part of PSV’s Eredivisie title winning side in 2023. Malen’s form in the latter half of the season proved crucial for Roma, particularly given the struggles of rivals Milan and Juventus, who both missed out on Champions League qualification.
Roma also announced the contract extension of defender Mario Hermoso, who will remain with the club until 2027. Hermoso made 35 appearances for Roma this season, scoring four goals. These moves signal Roma’s intent to build on their successful season and compete at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions. Malen’s permanent signing provides long-term attacking firepower, while Hermoso’s extension bolsters the defensive options available to manager Daniele De Rossi.
