Manchester City are currently engaged in direct negotiations with Lille regarding a potential transfer for 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The move comes as Enzo Maresca looks to bolster his midfield options, with City now considered the frontrunners for the Moroccan international’s signature ahead of Arsenal.
Bouaddi has quickly established himself as a key player for Lille, making 96 first-team appearances despite his young age. His performances at the recent World Cup reportedly attracted significant attention from top European clubs, and City’s interest has intensified in recent weeks. This pursuit occurs despite the club’s recent completion of a €135 million deal for Elliot Anderson.
Romano reported via X that negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs and with the player himself, stating that City are “the most interested club” in Bouaddi. A decision point remains as to whether the transfer will occur immediately or be delayed until June 2027. Initial reports suggested a €90 million bid was being prepared, however, Lille are believed to be seeking a fee of at least €100 million for the highly-rated teenager.
Lille president Olivier Letang has indicated that while no official asking price has been set, few clubs possess the financial capacity to secure Bouaddi’s services. Letang expressed a preference for Bouaddi to remain at Lille for another season to continue his development, but acknowledged that all possibilities remain open. He revealed that he had postponed discussions with potential suitors during the World Cup, prioritizing the player’s focus on the tournament.
Letang stated to L’Equipe in July that the club would reassess the situation in the coming weeks, remaining “calm” and prepared for any eventuality. The potential arrival of Bouaddi would further strengthen City’s already formidable squad, providing Maresca with additional depth and quality in midfield. His signing could also signal a long-term succession plan as the club continues to build for sustained success.
