Manchester United are contemplating a summer transfer bid for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Waldemar Anton, according to reports in England.
The Premier League club are reportedly assessing a potential offer of around €40.5 million for the 29-year-old, with scouts having monitored his performances, as reported by The Mirror.
Anton’s potential move to Old Trafford was first suggested in March by Sky Germany, who also identified Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid as clubs with reported interest in the German international.
He currently represents Germany at the European Championship, facing competition for a starting role in central defence from established players such as Nico Schlotterbeck, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger, and Malick Thiaw.
Anton joined Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, quickly becoming a key figure in the Dortmund squad and securing a contract that runs until 2028. Prior to his move to Dortmund, he spent several seasons with Stuttgart, developing into one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent defenders.
Manchester United’s interest in Anton comes as they seek to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season. The Red Devils have been linked with several centre-backs in recent months as they aim to address vulnerabilities that were exposed during the previous campaign.
Erik ten Hag’s side finished eighth in the Premier League last season, highlighting the need for squad strengthening across multiple positions. A proven performer like Anton could provide much-needed stability and experience to the United backline.
Should Anton complete a move to Manchester United, it would likely see him compete with Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire, and Raphaël Varane for a place in the starting eleven. The transfer could also signal a potential shift in defensive strategy under Ten Hag.
