Manchester United are reportedly frustrated with Marcus Rashford’s public statements regarding his desire to remain at Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. The 28-year-old winger is currently on loan at the Catalan club after a previous six-month loan spell with Aston Villa in the 2024-25 season.
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan last summer, fulfilling a long-held ambition to play for the club. Despite not being a guaranteed starter, competing with players like Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, he has made a significant contribution to their LaLiga-winning campaign, registering 17 goal contributions in the league and 28 across all competitions.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen to bring Rashford back to Villa Park this summer, and the club are prepared to make a bid. However, Rashford has made it clear he prefers a permanent move to Barcelona, stating after winning the Spanish league, “I don’t know. I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. So we will see.”
United officials are concerned that Rashford’s public declarations are weakening their negotiating position with Barcelona, who currently have a €30m (£26m) option to buy. The Spanish club are now reportedly exploring the possibility of another loan deal with an option or obligation to buy, and are even considering offering Rashford a new five-year contract to spread the transfer fee over a longer period.
However, United are steadfast in their refusal to accept another loan arrangement. Sources indicate that the club will not lower their demands, leaving Barcelona to decide whether to activate the existing option to buy or risk losing Rashford to Aston Villa, who can offer Champions League football. The situation remains fluid, with Rashford’s future hinging on Barcelona’s willingness to meet United’s demands.
