Manchester United and Chelsea have emerged as leading contenders to sign Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to TEAMtalk. Newcastle United had previously shown interest in the 25-year-old Germany international midfielder, but have since withdrawn from negotiations.
Newcastle’s decision is reportedly due to Dortmund’s valuation, which the Magpies deemed too high, as well as reservations from Nmecha himself about a move to St James’ Park. Sources close to the player suggest he wasn’t fully convinced the move represented the right step in his career, despite Newcastle’s long-standing admiration.
Nmecha has impressed with his performances, including at the recent World Cup, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs. Both United and Chelsea are currently evaluating midfield options as they plan for the upcoming season, and are said to appreciate Nmecha’s athleticism, technical ability, and versatility. His recent form has reinforced the belief that he has the potential to become a leading midfielder in Europe.
Dortmund are reportedly seeking a substantial fee for Nmecha, although sources indicate the club’s asking price of around €100million is higher than they realistically expect to receive. They would be willing to negotiate for a lower figure should a serious offer materialize. Nmecha is currently focused on his World Cup campaign, but his Premier League future remains open with Newcastle out of the picture.
The potential for either United or Chelsea to formalize their interest will likely depend on developments with other midfield targets, but Nmecha is firmly on both clubs’ shortlists as the transfer window progresses.
