Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with a bid potentially exceeding €90 million being prepared, according to CaughtOffside. The move comes with the backing of the club’s new co-owners, INEOS, though Newcastle are believed to be reluctant to sell and are seeking a fee in excess of €100 million. Arsenal and Manchester City were also linked with Tonali, but are now prioritizing other targets.
Separately, the transfer of Atalanta midfielder Ederson to Manchester United is “100% confirmed,” as stated by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. A full agreement between the two clubs was reached earlier this week, with a financial package of €45 million secured for the Brazilian international, who had previously agreed personal terms with United last month. All paperwork has been completed, although the official announcement is expected in July.
Speculation surrounds the future of Mason Greenwood, currently at Marseille, with Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi claiming a personal agreement is in place. Romano confirms Safi does have an agreement with the player, but no deal has been reached with Marseille, who are demanding a fee of up to €55 million. Manchester United retain a significant financial interest in any deal, possessing a substantial sell-on clause from the initial transfer to Marseille.
The ongoing upheaval at West Ham United, including the resignation of joint-chair David Sullivan and previous departures of Karren Brady and Max Hahn, could impact their negotiations with Manchester United regarding Mateus Fernandes. West Ham are currently seeking a fee exceeding €80 million for the Portugal international, while United value him closer to €50 million. The changes in leadership at West Ham may alter their negotiating position in the coming weeks, potentially influencing the outcome of the Fernandes transfer saga.
Ederson, 24, arrives from Serie A with a reputation for dynamic midfield play, offering United a boost in central areas. Tonali, 24, would bring a physical presence and tactical versatility to Erik ten Hag’s squad, if the deal materialises. The potential sale of Greenwood would see United recoup a significant portion of the fee, thanks to the sell-on clause agreed with Marseille.
