Manchester United have confirmed the permanent transfer of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli for a fee of €44 million, according to the club’s official announcement. The move concludes a loan spell with the Italian side that began last summer, triggered by Napoli’s qualification for the Champions League after finishing second in Serie A.
The deal represents a significant financial boost for United as they look to reshape their squad under manager Michael Carrick this summer. The funds generated from the sale of Hojlund could be crucial in facilitating further signings, particularly in midfield where the club is reportedly targeting Atalanta’s Ederson for a fee of €35 million.
Hojlund initially joined Manchester United in 2023 for a substantial €80 million, but struggled to consistently impact the Premier League. He scored ten goals in his first season but only managed four the following year. The arrival of Benjamin Sesko last summer further limited his opportunities, leading to the loan move to Napoli.
During his time in Italy, Hojlund rediscovered his form, scoring 12 goals in Serie A and becoming a key player for Napoli. He has now signed a contract with the Italian club that runs until 2030, which includes an €85 million release clause that will become active next summer.
United are hoping to secure similar departures to generate further funds for recruitment. Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Barcelona, and Andre Onana, who spent the season at Trabzonspor, are both expected to return to Old Trafford for pre-season, with the club potentially seeking permanent moves for both players. The success of the Hojlund sale may encourage other clubs to make offers for players deemed surplus to requirements by Carrick.
