Manchester United are reportedly gaining confidence in securing a double transfer for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Atalanta’s Ederson Silva, according to Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio. The potential acquisitions come as United prepare for the departure of Casemiro to Inter Miami and the likely sale of Manuel Ugarte.
Casemiro has reportedly agreed to join the MLS side at the end of the season, prompting United to seek reinforcements in central midfield ahead of their return to the Champions League. While Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is considered a primary target, his club is reportedly demanding a British record fee of £125 million, potentially pricing United out of a move.
Tonali, who joined Newcastle last summer for around £60 million, has emerged as a viable alternative. Newcastle may be willing to sell the Italy international to raise funds for their own squad rebuild, with a reported valuation of £100 million. The Chronicle reports that Tonali’s sale could alleviate the need to sell other key players.
Alongside Tonali, United are also progressing with a deal for Ederson. The Atalanta midfielder has reportedly already agreed to personal terms with the club, and the Serie A side are seeking a fee of around €45 million (£39 million) for the three-cap Brazil international, as he has only one year remaining on his contract. Fabrizio Romano confirmed new contacts are planned in the coming days to finalize the deal.
Bayern Munich are also interested in a Newcastle player, Anthony Gordon, but are reportedly unwilling to meet the club’s £75 million asking price, potentially opening the door for Tonali’s departure. These potential signings would significantly strengthen Manchester United’s midfield options ahead of the new season and address the need for quality depth in a crucial position.
