Manchester United have confirmed the departures of three players – Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho – ahead of the 2026 World Cup. All three will leave the club on free transfers, bringing an end to their respective spells at Old Trafford.
According to reports, Sancho is nearing a return to Borussia Dortmund, the club where he previously enjoyed a successful period in his career. Casemiro is also potentially set to continue his career in the United States, with a move to Inter Miami, where he would join Lionel Messi, being discussed. The club thanked all three players for their contributions and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Casemiro arrived at United with a strong pedigree, having won five European titles with Real Madrid. He went on to feature in over 160 games for the club across four seasons, experiencing a somewhat slow start but ultimately becoming a valuable player. Malacia’s time at United proved less impactful, with the Dutch right-back making only three appearances this season and failing to establish himself as a regular starter after joining from Feyenoord.
Sancho’s departure represents the biggest disappointment of the three. Signed for a reported £85 million in the summer of 2021, the 26-year-old winger struggled to make a consistent impact in the Premier League, and his time at the club was marked by loan spells and a failure to live up to expectations. His potential was widely recognised, but he ultimately failed to deliver on the pitch for United. These departures signal a clear shift in personnel for Erik ten Hag as he looks to reshape the squad.
