Manchester United have firmly rejected approaches from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for forward Benjamin Sesko this summer, according to TEAMtalk. Intermediaries representing both Spanish clubs made enquiries regarding the Slovenia international’s availability, but the club has made it clear Sesko is not for sale.
Sesko joined United last summer for a fee exceeding £70million but experienced a somewhat inconsistent first season at Old Trafford. However, the appointment of Michael Carrick as manager proved pivotal, with the former midfielder quickly placing faith in the striker. Sesko responded with a strong finish to the campaign, becoming United’s top scorer in the second half of the Premier League season with 11 goals despite starting only 17 league matches.
Barcelona’s interest is reportedly linked to the uncertain future of Julian Alvarez, with the Catalan club viewing Sesko as a potential alternative should they fail to secure the Argentine. Atletico Madrid are also considering forward options, potentially as a replacement for Alvarez or Alexander Sorloth, and have identified Sesko as a player they admire.
Despite the external interest, United are resolute in their stance. Sources within the club believe Sesko is only beginning to realize his potential and is a key component of Carrick’s long-term plans. The manager is understood to be a significant admirer of the player, and that sentiment is reciprocated. Those close to Sesko report he is enjoying his football under Carrick and appreciates the freedom and confidence he has been given.
United are currently focused on recruiting a versatile forward capable of playing multiple attacking positions, particularly following the expected departure of Joshua Zirkzee. However, this pursuit is separate from any consideration of selling Sesko, who remains a central figure in the club’s future ambitions.
