Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson Silva, according to reports from SportItalia. The deal is valued at €48 million with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, totaling €53 million (£46 million). The club is finalising the remaining details, and Ederson is expected to travel to England imminently to complete his move.
This move represents a significant first signing for Michael Carrick as Manchester United’s permanent head coach, bolstering the midfield ahead of next season. Atalanta will realise a substantial profit from the sale, given Ederson was entering the final year of his contract. Sources confirmed earlier this week that the 26-year-old had already agreed personal terms with United.
Beyond the imminent arrival of Ederson, Manchester United are also reportedly monitoring two West Ham United players. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reports that United have stepped up their interest in Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes, making a new approach for his signature. Fernandes is said to favour a move to Old Trafford over interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Furthermore, United have ‘entered the race’ for West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, according to O’Rourke. Bowen’s availability hinges on West Ham’s potential relegation to the Championship, where he would likely be available at a reduced fee. While Bowen, at 29 years old, may not typically fit United’s transfer profile, he is considered a ‘Premier League proven’ asset and a ‘smart pick up’.
There has also been speculation surrounding Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong, with journalist Ben Jacobs suggesting he is on United’s radar. However, Chelsea currently maintain a firm stance that Acheampong is not for sale, though the player may be open to exploring options if his playing time is limited under a new manager. The potential for both Fernandes and Bowen to join United could reportedly save West Ham £100 million in relegation-related financial implications.
