Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with a summer move for Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to reports. The 21-year-old, who joined the Magpies permanently for £28 million after a loan spell from Chelsea in 2023, has impressed this season, attracting the attention of several top clubs.
United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is reportedly a ‘big admirer’ of Hall and is considering a bid in the summer of 2026. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the England international, with TEAMtalk reporting that all three clubs were ‘showing interest’ as of late March. However, Newcastle are currently firm in their stance that Hall is not for sale, viewing him as a key part of their long-term project.
Hall has established himself as a regular in Eddie Howe’s side, demonstrating consistent performances at left-back. His progress has been noted by United, who are looking to strengthen their defensive options. Despite the interest, Newcastle have a strong negotiating position, with Hall under contract until 2029.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes his former club should also be pursuing Hall, particularly with Andy Robertson’s time at Anfield potentially coming to an end. Murphy has expressed doubts about the current Liverpool left-back options, specifically questioning whether £40 million summer signing Milos Kerkez is “at the level” required to compete for major honours. He suggests Hall would be a significant upgrade, praising his defensive abilities and Premier League experience.
Murphy also cast doubt on Jeremie Frimpong as a long-term solution at right-back for Liverpool, and highlighted concerns over the fitness of Conor Bradley. While acknowledging Bradley’s talent, Murphy believes a more reliable and established right-back should be a priority. Securing a player of Hall’s quality on the left would be more crucial, given Robertson’s impending departure.
Newcastle’s insistence on retaining Hall suggests a significant bid would be required to change their stance. The player himself appears content at St. James’ Park, further complicating any potential transfer.
